Felix Klaedtke: Monitoring and Enforcing Data Usage with Temporal Logics

    Tuesday, 14.05.2013 at 10:00 h, Mornewegstraße 32, 5th floor, room 5.3.01

    EC SPRIDE Colloquium:
IT systems manage increasing amounts of sensitive data and there is a growing concern whether agents, i.e., users and processes comply with policies that regulate the usage of sensitive data. Temporal logics are not only well suited for formalizing such regulations, they also allow one to synthesize efficient monitors from such specifications.

In this talk, I will give an overview of our approach to automated compliance checking based on a first-order temporal logic. I will also report on case studies in security and compliance monitoring and use these to evaluate both the suitability of our specification language for expressing complex, realistic policies and the efficiency of our monitoring approach. Furthermore, I will present our foundational work on policy enforcement and relate it to our monitoring approach. Finally, I will conclude by sketching ongoing work and future research directions.
